Unfortunately, I learned tonight that the crucially needed Literacy program we were working to fund that was to cover 37 schools in desperately poor areas of South Africa has been shut down due to a lack of funding and only 3 schools will be able to be served in the final phase.

Its frustrating to look at all the luxuries that we enjoy in the US and other thriving countries because sometimes it seems as if we pretend that others are not suffering on the other side of the world. And that’s not to say that we don’t have those suffering here as well, but anyone who has ever traveled to South Africa will attest to the unimaginable disparity between what we know as poverty and their poverty. Likewise, here in the US when it comes to education, it’s often not a lack of funds, but mismanagement thereof.If you are interested in making a donation, please visit www.givingspirit.org
